Vietnamese photographer Thanh Ha Bui captured this incredible image in his parents’ back garden and, after spotting a line of super strong weaver ants marching across a branch, decided to test their legendary weightlifting skills. First experimenting with pieces of food and leaves, he eventually ended up with this incredible shot

Hello! My name is Elizabeth, my friends call me Mitzy. I was born with an under bite and over time it’s grown worse with age. As I got older my jaw also caused me to develope TMJ. My jaw locks and pops several times a day and it’s only getting worse and more painful. My jaw is my biggest insecurity. I refuse to take pictures of my profile and I absolutely hate my smile. My friends have always supported me and suggested I do a donation to help raise the funds to help me correct it, but I could never bring myself to do it knowing so many other people also suffer from this same issue. But, I’ve finally decided to ask for the help required to have the work done to correct my jaw structure. My family has never been able to afford braces or correctional surgery and I’m hoping with the kindness and help from other’s that I’ll be able to make my biggest dream come true.
Mitzy has been my close friend and partner-in-cosplaying since day one. She receives alot of “You’re beautiful the way you are”s, but that can only go so far. Your own self-image is still your own and no one else can change that… I would do most anything to see the day she could really love her own image.
Any and all help would mean the world. <3
I have a friend who is dyslexic and one time he said “I put the sexy into dyslexia” and he waited for like thirty seconds and just went “fuck.”
piers kept true to his word and got through three hours of overly cheesy romcoms by sheer force of will to make it up to chris
Solo in a theatre about watch a late night showing of Hunger Games… I loved the books. Hope it’s good.
Sometimes I don’t mind watching movies alone, it’s not like you talk to others when you’re watching it… At least you’re not supposed to.
(Hold up… Previews are about to start)
So I’m in the theater at The Grove and Peeta is saying the speech to District 11, puts down the prepared speech and begins to speak from the heart… Then the screen short circuits out.
I thought it was apart of the movie, but the projector really broke, yo!
Guess President Snow really didn’t want us to see that part.
Why so anonymous?
I don’t necessarily find this ‘mean’ but I do find it very problematic. This way of thinking is the reason why most artists who offer commissions these days undercharge. Somehow, art has become so undervalued on the internet that people think they should be able to get it for dirt cheap.
Please, please, please take a gander at this great post about underpricing and undervaluing commission art. It may open your eyes as to why what you’ve written is so damaging for artists and commissioners alike.
Here’s just one paragraph from the aforementioned write-up:
I feel artists charging so lowly for their work breeds an attitude of entitlement in clients. This manifests in the messages artists receive begging them to lower their prices, telling them their art isn’t worth x or y, showing shock at the extravagant amounts that artists ask for their work (‘extravagant’ often being ‘enough to buy one meal in return for six or seven hours of work’). It does not help that art is often marketed as ‘cheap’ therefore worth buying (‘you should commission this artist, their work is so cheap and affordable!’) versus the fact it is worth buying because it is beautiful, custom-made, one-of-a-kind, everything else that art is and can be.
Did you know that if I ‘snapped’ my current prices in half, I’d be doing work for less than legal minimum wage? And commission/freelance jobs are my wages right now. This is part of my job. Not to mention, those prices are far less expensive than what I charge for other commissions. I’m already underpricing my work based on hourly wage calculation. This is real work, you know?
The culture of commissions has become so problematic that most artists actually feel bad for charging what their art is worth and balk at asking even $10 or $20 for what could be hours of work. Most artists, myself included, innately undervalue their own art because of constant exposure to this sort of thing. Most professions would never think twice about charging for their work but because art has become so undervalued, most artists starting out ((and even those who’ve been at it a while)) are scared to even think about it.
Did you know that with bell commissions ((or any commissions done for points, forum currency, etc)), you are getting free art? It may have taken you some time to sell enough bugs and fish to buy that gorgeous picture of your mayor with your favourite villager, but you essentially got it without having to pay a cent. And that’s fine. That’s fun. What sucks is when it colours your opinion of what that free art ((and that artist’s time)) is actually worth.
I’m in no way under the illusion that people have money to just ‘throw around’. I certainly don’t and that’s why I’m charging money in return for a service, much like a stylist or dentist or mechanic or musician. However I don’t think it’s entirely cool of you to assume that the majority of the AC community doesn’t earn their own money and thinks similarly ((although I’m sure the sentiment is out there, because this way of thinking is so prevalent)).
Commissions are a luxury. So is that game you have in your 3DS, but you or whoever bought it didn’t think twice about paying for it. Or maybe you did?
tl;dr I’m sorry you don’t like my prices but if I want to pay my bills and buy food, I have to charge a living wage. Or at least what’s even sort of close to one. Please read this post, as linked above, to understand this a bit more. Thanks.
